Financial Policies and Insurance

Thank you for choosing Hammond Psychological Services for high-quality therapy and assessment.  In an effort to make the billing process accessible and easy to understand, we’d like to outline the financial options we offer:

A full-fee 45-50 minute session is $155.

Call or e-mail for an assessment estimate.

  1. Using health insurance.  We have select therapists in-network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO, Blue Choice, Blue Cross Federal, Cigna and Medicare.  This means that some of our therapists can directly bill these insurance companies for your care, and you will only owe a copay, coinsurance or deductible (assigned by your plan).  Please note that some plans use a different insurance network for mental health coverage than indicated for medical coverage.  Make sure to check with your plan.
  2. Out Of Network Insurance. If we’re not in your network, or one of our therapists isn’t in your insurance network, there are a few options.  You can call the number on the back of your health insurance card and ask about “out of network” benefits.  This often involves paying your therapist the full cost of the appointment up front, then submitting a specific kind of receipt (called a superbill) to the company for reimbursement.  We will provide a superbill for full fee services if notified that the client is pursuing out-of-network benefits.

  3. Self-Pay.  For clients who seek services that are not covered by insurance, or do not want to go through their insurance, self-pay services are available.  Please reach out to us at appointments@hammondpsychologicalservices.com to discuss ways to make this affordable. When a rate is reduced, superbills will not be provided, due to insurance contracts, rules and regulations. Clients will be asked to waive their insurance benefits when entering into this arrangement.

  4. Reduced Fee Services. A limited number of slots are available at a reduced rate.  Some of our therapists offer significant rate reductions on Open Path Collective, and an agency-standard sliding scale is also available.  Once again, superbills are not provided for reduced-fee services.  Clients will be asked to waive their insurance benefits when entering into this arrangement.

For all of these options, we will ask that you upload a credit card to our portal when you initially register.  This card will be charged for session fees, coinsurance, co-pays or deductibles in accordance with our agreement.  Payment is due at the time of service, unless otherwise specified.

Being out of network with most insurance plans allows us the opportunity to prioritize safety (as insurance companies are unclear how long they will reimburse for telehealth sessions), save you time and hassle, and make your financial commitment more predictable. Many people would like to avoid insurance use because insurance companies require diagnostic information (which becomes part of your medical record), limit sessions, and require invasive reviews of services. Out-of-pocket therapy is a solution to that problem. See our blog post about creative ways to afford therapy!

Finally, if you are experiencing financial hardships that interfere with your ability to afford services, please contact us. We can work out a scheduling and financial arrangement that you can afford.
